쌈마이 Ssammai

쌈마이는 대한민국의 모던락, 펑크락을 생각하며 만든 작품 시리즈이다. 곤룡포에서 영감을 받은 무대의상을 중심으로 전시와 일러스트레이션 작업을 진행하였다. 쌈마이는 항상 논란의 중심인 전통의 현대화와 거기에서 오는 괴리감에 대해 생각해 볼 수 있도록 한다. 또한, 전통성의 기준을 어디까지 늘릴 수 있는지에 대해 알아보고자 한다.

Ssammai are a set of stage wear based on gonryongpo, traditional Korean king’s wear. It shines light on the uneasiness in combining tradition with current cultures and experiments with how much “tradition” can take.
The term ssammai is a Korean slang used to describe B-list, cheap and cheesy things. Ssammai is inspired by Korean punk and folk rock, paying homage to bands like the Yangbans. The project is comprised of three works: clothes, exhibition, and illustration.
